From the groundwood to the finishing room, Tristar's precision machining has solved many problems.

Couch rolls, suction rolls, felt idlers, dryer rolls, calendar stacks, digester system parts and many other paper machine parts have been supplied or reconditioned.

Special processes for special problems

TIG Welding: (tungsten inert gas). This special process is used in joining, fabricating and in buildup work of non-ferrous alloys (bronze, aluminum, brass and other exotic alloys).

Titanium Welding: This process is performed under special welding conditions. Many pump parts in the pulp and paper digester systems are made of titanium to withstand the highly corrosive environment.

Sub-Arc System: Worn surfaces of moving parts like shafts or bearing seats are built up by this system. The metal is first analyzed, a Brinell hardness test is taken and dye-penetrant and ultrasonic tests for cracks are performed. A two component flux and wire is then welded to the surface. This buildup is extremely wear and corrosion resistant.

Metallizing Department

Protection and Coatings - engineering for Pulp and Paper, Petrochemical, Chemical, Marine, Mining and Electro-Industrial industries.

Systems used at present:

  1. Wire spray, normal and high speed applications (Metco).
  2. Combustion powderspray application (Metco) and the latest Eutectic Terodyne including internal spray.
  3. Plasma spray applications: All metals, alloys, ceramics, carbides, cermets, inter-metallics and all the latest WCT, Wear Control Technology - materials by Eutectic.

Common applications are for build up and overlays on:

  • Shafts
  • Sleeves
  • Pump Rods Bearing
  • Housings
  • Bearing Surfaces
  • Bearing Shells
  • Stuffing Boxes
  • Journals
  • Fans
  • Drums
  • Smelt Spouts
  • Impellers
  • Thermal Barriers
  • Dielectric Coatings
  • Static Electricity Prevention
  • Bearing Failure Through Discharge
  • Ground Coatings (Metals On Insulators)
  • Non-Slip Surfaces
